20 Worst Remakes Of All Time

Hollywood filmmakers assume that just because the original movie was a hit, its remake will also be successful. Naturally, that’s not how things work and most remakes nowadays are plain awful.

While it makes sense that the original movie is always somewhat better, some remakes are so terrible and unnecessary that we wonder whether Hollywood has ran out of original ideas and only wants to cash in by exploiting classic movies.

Here’s our list of 20 worst remakes that were complete critical failures:

1. Total Recall (2012)

The remake of the famous 1990 movie of the same name, Total Recall is a sci-fi action film starring Colin Farrell, Kate Beckinsale, Jessica Biel, Bryan Cranston, Will Yun Lee, and Bill Nighy.

Unlike the original movie that was praised by professional film critics, the remake received mixed reviews and was criticized mostly for the lack of humor and poor character development. Jessica Biel was even nominated for a Razzie Award for Worst Supporting Actress for her role in the flick.

The movie holds a 30 % approval on Rotten Tomatoes, the general census stating: “While it boasts some impressive action sequences, Total Recall lacks the intricate plotting, dry humor and fleshed out characters that made the original a sci-fi classic.”

Although the original movie lacked today’s technical possibilities, it became a classic of the genre. On the other hand, the remake can never actually touch us emotionally, regardless of the superb special effects.
