Avengers: The Age Of Ultron Falls Short Of A Record

Disney had huge hopes for the Avengers sequel that premiered this weekend across cinemas in the US . They hoped that their latest superhero movie Avengers: The Age Of Ultron would break the record its predecessor had set back in 2012 with $207.4 made on the opening weekend.

The sequel fell short of expectations.

Still, there is no need for worry as the sequel still managed to bring in $187.7 only in North American cinemas, making it the second-highest first weekend of all time, behind only The Avengers and in front of Iron Man 3 which earned $174.1 on its first weekend.

The experts say that there were a couple of sporting events that prevented Age of Ultron from becoming the highest-grossing weekend opening ever; more precisely the NBA Playoffs, the Kentucky Derby and most notably of all, the Floyd Mayweather – Manny Pacquaio championship fight.
