At the end of June, the 45th anniversary of the Stonewell riots will be celebrated at the New York Pride event.

Singer Demi Lovato has already signed up to perform at the Dance of the Pier on June 29.

The Stonewall riots were spontaneous and violent demonstrations led by members of the gay community against police raid that happened on June 28, 1969, at the Stonewall Inn in the Greenwich Village.

They demonstrations are considered to constitute the single most important event leading to the gay liberation movement and the modern fight for gay and lesbian rights in the U.S.

Homosexual Americans in the 1950s and 1960s faced a legal system more anti-homosexual than those of some Warsaw Pact countries.

Within a few years of the first Stonewall, gay rights organizations were launched across the U.S. and the world.

On June 28, 1970, the first Gay Pride marches were organized in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago celebrating the anniversary of the riots.

Today, Gay Pride events are held every year throughout the world toward the end of June to mark the famous Stonewall riots.
