Morphin Time! Power Rangers Film In Works



Most Beloved 1990s kids’ action heroes the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers will have a comeback in a new a new live-action feature movie.

Media mogul and show creator Haim Saban announced on Wednesday that he will be teaming up with executives at Lionsgate to make the classic TV franchise back, and this time to the big screen, more than 20 years the Rangers made their debut in 1993.

Saban’s statement reads, “Lionsgate is the perfect home for elevating our Power Rangers brand to the next level. They have the vision, marketing prowess and incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent.”

In partnership with the Lionsgate team, we’re confident that we will capture the world of the Power Rangers and translate it into a unique and memorable motion picture phenomenon with a legacy all its own.

It is an unexpected move that shocked the Internet, causing clusters of friends to activate their comically-sized wristwatches and meet in private to discuss disaster management. That’s the thing we did when we were kids. We were Power Rangers.

There have been multiple casts over the years, but the original series featured actors Amy Jo Johnson, David Yost and Walter Jones.

The first Mighty Morphin Power Rangers film was released in 1995 and made more than $66 million (£39 million) worldwide.

A release date for the new feature film has yet to be announced.
