“Pan” Looks Great, But The Story Is Lacking

Let’s get one thing out of the way immediately. “Pan” is absolutely visually stunning. It has the effects that you would expect from a Harry Potter movie, and the color and visual identity of a much more serious movie.

And while it looks amazing, the storytelling kind of falls short, to be honest. If you know Peter Pan, then you pretty much know what the movie is about. An orphan is taken away to the magical world of Neverland, where he becomes Peter Pan.

But this prequel tends to be more confusing and pointless, in terms of story, than interesting. One of the biggest misses is undoubtedly James Hook. Alright, he might not have to look and sound like a pirate immediately, but he should not be Han Solo either. He literally looks, talks and acts like the famed Star Wars character.

The biggest fault of the plot is one that many prequels suffer from – it tries to tell you too much and by doing so, creates more confusion than clarity.
