Rhys Ifans Will Play Dylan Thomas

The Amazing Spider-Man star Rhys Ifans will have a chance to portray poet Dylan Thomas in a new biopic. According to Variety.com, the Welsh star will play alongside John Malkovich and Diego Luna in Dominion, a movie about the last days of the author’s life.

Steven Bernstein is expected to direct and production is set to begin Later in May.

Ifans is currently working on another Dylan Thomas project. In March 2014 he was cast in the film adaptation of Thomas’ play Under Milk Wood.

Dominion will be set in 1953 in New York, where Thomas, struggling with alcoholism, died at the age of 39 after multiple visits to White Horse Tavern, in Greenwich Village.

He’d also received from a local doctor a series of “injections” designed to help him complete public performances of Under Milk Wood.

Dylan Thomas died of pneumonia in 1953.
